Star Spangle was done during a Lifebook lesson with Annie Hamman. Annie does beautiful portraits and was teaching us how to use blue to shade faces. This was all new to me and lots of experimental fun.

We started of doing a layer of collage (my favourite!), then drew the face and shoulders. Next we got stuck into painting. The last layer was using posca pens to add the finishing touches.
 
As my girl was coming along, I knew she needed star earrings. I had the picture of what I wanted and scoured ebay until I found exactly what I was looking for.
 
She was the first girl I had done on canvas and I could see how far I had come after a year of painting seriously and could see my own style emerging. I was, am so proud of her. Her earrings add a nice touch of bling!
