About the event

Art journaling is a visual way to express what we may not be able to put in words. It is not something anyone viewing your page will understand. It is a deeply personal work of art.  I love to teach this way of mindfulness through art to encourage you to check in with yourself, stay true to you, make time for yourself and have fun playing.  We will begin by talking about art journalling and the supplies you may be using. We will do a guided relaxation called "What if" which will help you visualise your word or phrase. I will talk you through how to put your page together with the supplies you are using. You will create an image you can use to keep you motivated and anchored throughout the year.  It can be as simple or as detailed as you like. This class is for beginners and I so I do not expect you to be doing faces or anything too technical as it is one session. Pictured towards the end are a couple of artworks created in this class by my students so you can see how varied they are.  Join the class with me and find your spark!

WHAT TO BRING

This is a mixed media class so anything goes!

PAPER - You can paint on the back of an old bill, an art journal page, an old novel, it is up to you.

COLOUR - I will be using watercolours because they dry quickly. You can use them too or watercolour pencils/crayons, regular coloured pencils, acrylics if you have a hairdryer handy. I do not recommend crayons or oil pastels as you won't be able to write over them. If you are painting, you will need a brush, pot of water and something to wipe your brush on. GLUING - start collecting paper like wrapping paper, old cards/tickets/coloured envelopes, images from magazines/newspapers/catalogues. Words are good too. You will need a glue stick or pva.

WRITING - a lead pencil, rubber and a black pen. Pen can be a biro, fine liner, gel pen, fine posca or sharpie. If you want to get a white pen, I suggest a uni-ball signo. Optional are coloured pens or markers

OPTIONAL - stamps, stencils, coloured pens and markers
