The Greek Goddess Artemis was a fierce protector of women. She kept pregnant and labouring mothers and animals safe.
 
She was a hunter of those guilty of moral and ethical violations and was often seen with a bow and arrow and accompanied by a dog or bear. She lived in the wilderness and protected animals from predators who killed for sport not food.
 
She was a moon goddess, symbolic of the triple moon symbol. This symbol represents a woman’s journey, from youth, to motherhood to crone. She was honoured in rituals on the full moon. Artemis was a virgin who had strong boundaries.
 
What does this mean in our time? How can we relate her attributes to our lives?
 
You can help protect women. Instead of knocking them down and being jealous, lift them up and cheer them on. Surround yourself with those you care about and who care about you. Learn from women and use those lessons which resonate with you to move forward. You can protect yourself by setting boundaries.
 
Don’t stand back, speak up if things are not right. This goes for protecting women and for moral and ethical violations. Sit and think about what you can do to protect the environment. Call a family meeting and discuss what changes you think you can make as a family. Protest against corruption.
 
Honour your path,who you have become and who you are meant to be. Sit with yourself, listen to yourself. What do you want to call in in your life? What do you need to release? You are exactly where you are meant to be. Everything that has happened to you, whether shitty or not, has made you who you are today, and no one can take that away from you. You are bloody amazing! Look how far you have come!
 
These Modern Goddesses I paint are as relevant now as they were in ancient time. Each of them has attributes we can relate to even though we may warm to some more than others. My Goddesses are a reminder to stay on your path of growth and discovery and not to settle in your comfort zone. Dreams die in comfort zones!
 
This Goddess was made using collage paper for the moon, acrylic paint, gel pens, gold leaf and a Christmas tea box for the arrow fletching.
